Empoli president Fabrizio Corsi has told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli (quotes via metropolisweb.net) that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp talked to Piotr Zielinski in January about a move to Anfield.

The Poland international was linked with the Reds back in January but a move didn’t materialise, and Corsi, whose club Zielinski was on loan at all of last season believes Liverpool are favourites for his signature:

“The footballer talked in January with Klopp, Liverpool was then ahead of all other suitors. It’s clear that Zielinski sees the Premier League as a top league. He has several options, and should be earning 2 million euros per year, a figure that probably Napoli could reach.”

It is believed that both Liverpool and Napoli have had bids accepted by Udinese for the 22 year old with multiple sources stating the Reds have offered £9.5million for the central midfielder. The move for the Polish star has been a protracted one with any conclusion to the deal likely to be after the European Championships. Zielinski is with the Poland squad in France but has made just one appearance so far; the first 45 minutes against Ukraine yesterday. He was substituted at half time for Jakub Blaszczykowski who scored the winning goal 9 minutes after coming on.
