Liverpool and Chelsea are considering bids for 15 year old Barcelona midfielder Sergio Gomez, according to the Daily Mail. The youngster was linked with a move to the Merseyside club back in March.
The Reds took note of the player when he was named as player of tournament at the Al Dhafra International tournament after helping Barcelona beat Liverpool 4-3 in the final.
Marca reported at the time that Reds scouts were so impressed with Gomez’s technical skill they were willing to offer a “blank cheque” for the player. Now it seems that Liverpool have rekindled their interest in the player.
Born in Badalona, Gomez first joined Espanyol youth ranks before being poached by city rivals Barcelona. As a local, it may take a lot of persuading for the player to leave his home city and move abroad at such a young age. It remains to be seen if finances will play a part in any move as English clubs are able to offer much better terms for youth players than Spanish clubs.
