Napoli attacking midfielder Marek Hamsik has told La Gazzetta Dello Sport that he would like to stay in Italy with Napoli.

Speculation had grown about the 28 year old’s future after his agent came out to say the likelihood of staying with his current club was only “50-50.” His performances at the European Championships, especially in the game against Russia, for Slovakia had led to more rumours about a move away from Serie A with Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli believing that Hamsik was a Liverpool target, but the playmaker has put an end to any speculation. He says he is waiting for negotiations to be concluded on a new contract to stay at the San Paolo.

“We wait for the club for [contract] renewal negotiations. If the club agrees, I will stay. If they do not want me I’ll have to plan accordingly. Now I take a break to be with my family.”

Valued at £35million, Hamsik was always an unlikely target, especially at 28, and with the Reds now signing Sadio Mane from Southampton for £30million, we will need to wait and see if the Reds will make any other big purchases this summer.
