Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has told Radio Jovem Pan that he doesn’t know whether he will be in Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the new season.

The Brazilian was in and out of the side under the German manager last campaign and with Emre Can being favoured in the holding midfield role ahead of the 29 year old, there has been speculation that he may look to leave Anfield next season for more first team football. In the interview, Lucas said he will wait to see what new faces Klopp brings in before deciding on his future

“It is the first transfer window that  Klopp  will  participate more actively in for Liverpool, so  I’ll have a better idea when I return [for preseason]… Whatever happens, the  idea, as always, is to remain in the  Europe, mainly in England, which has a very strong and good league to play in.”

The Reds are said to be close to sealing deals for forward Sadio Mane from Southampton for £30m and midfielder Piotr Zielinski from Udinese, neither of which would directly threaten Lucas’s position in the squad. Whether he will accept being Emre Can’s understudy, and having to fight with Kevin Stewart for his position is not certain.
