Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel is set to complete his move to Fenerbahce once the Slovakia international’s participation in the European Championships is over, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The local paper has confirmed that the Turkish club have bid £5.5million for the 31 year old and that they even tried to buy the player last summer.

Skrtel’s agent Mithat Halis has been quoted as saying that Fenerbahce, Wolfsburg and one other club were interested in signing the centre back but it looks as though the Yellow Canaries are now the favourites for his signature.

The defender struggled for form and fitness under Jurgen Klopp and with the impending arrival of Joel Matip from Schalke on a free transfer, and with both Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren ahead of him in the pecking order, it looks like the Slovak has decided to depart the club to gain more first team opportunities. Skrtel has spent 8 years with Liverpool after signing from Zenit St Petersburg for £6.5million in 2008.
