Liverpool are prepared to pay £25million for their number one midfield target Mahmoud Dahoud, according to the Guardian. The major problem is that his club Borussia Monchengladbach would like to keep the player for another year after selling Granit Xhaka to Arsenal for £25m.

The 20 year old is believed to be Jurgen Klopp’s next priority after signing Sadio Mane from Southampton for £30million but it looks like he will have a fight on his hands to secure the player’s signature this summer.

Dahoud is a German Under 21 international but has only played one season in Gladbach’s first team with 41 appearances last campaign in all competitions, scoring five times and providing nine assists.

Klopp’s pursuit of Dahoud may be one of the reasons why the transfer of Piotr Zielinski has become so protracted. The Polish international may well be the German manager’s second choice with Dahoud the main priority for the Reds.
