Liverpool may miss out on Porto’s central midfielder Hector Herrera, despite offering the Portuguese club a better deal for the 26 year old than rivals Napoli, according to Fantagazzetta.

The Italian website believes that Herrera would favour a move to Italy because of their participation in the Champions League but the main obstacle to the move is the fact Napoli are not prepared to meet Porto’s asking price of €20million, while the Reds are.

In a sign though that Porto are anticipating offloading the Mexican international very soon, they have enquired about the availability of Oliver Torres at Atletico Madrid. The Portuguese side would like the player on loan initially to replace the outgoing Herrera.

Liverpool have been involved with Napoli in battles for two midfielders. While it looks likely Piotr Zielinski will favour a move to the Reds over the Naples club, it now looks like that the Italian side will win the fight for Herrera.
