Image for Dutchman confirms Liverpool transfer prank

PSV Eindhoven left back Jetro Willems has told Dutch website sportnieuws.nl that his picture on Snapchat with him in a Liverpool shirt signing a contract was just a joke.

The Reds have been linked with the 22 year old in the Dutch press although ESPN UK have reported that the Dutch international is not a target for the Merseyside club:

“It was a joke. Let’s not take everything too seriously in this life, you know.”

Willems was speaking on Tuesday after PSV lost a friendly to local rivals FC Eindhoven. He said that he didn’t rule out anything but there is also a possibility of extending his contract with PSV for another year. The defender has one year left on his contract at the Dutch club which has led to increased speculation about his future.

“You never know. I really deny anything, but at the moment nothing is yet final and an additional year at PSV is also possible and if that happens I’ve already said that would be a lot of fun.”

It was confirmed yesterday that Brad Smith had been sold to Bournemouth for an undisclosed fee, a deal that the Liverpool Echo believe could rise to £6m. With just one senior left back in the squad, Jurgen Klopp will no doubt be looking for another signing before the transfer window closes.
