Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his satisfaction about the transfer business the club have done so far this season but has stated that the squad size is currently too big, and that the Reds will be selling a number of players before the end of the transfer window.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo on the club’s preseason tour of the United States, the Reds boss said:

“We still have to do a lot of things on the selling side. We don’t want to have 500 players in the squad.”

In terms of the number of signings the club has made already, Klopp says he really only needs one more before the club’s transfer activity is complete for the summer:

“We’re in a good way. We don’t need to make another three or four signings, maybe one more, maybe not. There’s been a lot of planning. It’s like a puzzle. That’s how building a squad works. We have already bought seven players. That’s a big number, it’s not that we haven’t been active in the transfer market. It’s all about balance.”

The most likely final signing will be in the left back position. Brad Smith is weighing up a £6million move to Bournemouth and if the deal goes ahead, the Reds would be left with just one senior left sided full back in Alberto Moreno. Ben Chilwell of Leicester has been linked with a move to Anfield but local media reports suggest the 19 year old will sign a contract extension to stay at the Premier League champions.
