Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu is expected to stay at the Camp Nou this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo. The 32 year old was linked with a move to Liverpool in the French media last week.
The centre back has also reportedly been subject to a €7million bid from Turkish champions Besiktas but Barca would only allow the player to leave the club if the player requested to go.
The Spanish newspaper reports that this is not the case and that the player and his family are happy to stay in Barcelona. The Reds have been looking at centre back targets since the news that Joe Gomez suffered an Achilles injury which will keep him out of the start of the season.
Subsequently Liverpool have set their sights on Augsburg defender and Estonia captain Ragnar Klavan. The 30 year old is available for £4.2million and is believed to be in Liverpool today for a medical ahead of his move to Anfield.
