Italian TV Station Premium Sport believe that Liverpool are the only club remaining in pursuing Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain this summer (report via Italian Football Daily). Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid have all dropped their interest in the Argentinian international as they pursue different targets.
PSG have a new manager in Unai Emery who has his own transfer priorities, Atletico have signed Fernando Torres on a permanent basis and are also tracking Chelsea’s Diego Costa, while Chelsea have just signed Michy Batshuayi from Marseille for £33million.
It doesn’t necessarily mean that a move to Anfield is on the cards though. Premium Sport think that the most likely outcome now is that Higuain will remain in Naples; that is despite his brother and agent Nicolas Higuain telling the press he thinks Napoli have broken promises to the player. The 28 year old broke the Serie A goalscoring record last season, scoring 36 goals, leading to some of Europe’s top clubs taking an interest in him but for now it looks like he will stay at the San Paolo.
