Lazio are anticipating interest from Liverpool for their goalkeeper Federico Marchetti, according to goal.com Italy. The Italian only signed a new contract in January to stay at the Stadio Olimpico after he became the subject of interest from Aston Villa.

Villa switched targets this summer though and have bought Pierluigi Gollini from Verona, leaving the Reds as the main interested party in the 33 year old. Jurgen Klopp’s side were linked with 39 year old Alex Manninger earlier this month as Liverpool look for a third goalkeeper after allowing Danny Ward to leave on loan for Huddersfield Town.

Goal.com believe the final decision will come down to caretaker manager Simon Inzaghi who took charge after Marcelo Bielsa left the Serie A side after just two days. Marchetti was also linked to Liverpool in the Italian press back in January but it must be said that having Simon Mignolet, Lorius Karius and Marchetti all competing for the number one spot would be intriguing as all three would expect to be number one.
