He is either not fussed about his shirt number or he’s a bit overly polite but Cameron Brannagan has decided to hand over his shirt number to a team mate, for the second time.

New Liverpool signing Joel Matip asked Brannagan whether he would give up his no 32 shirt to him (Matip wore the same number at Schalke), and the Reds midfielder dutifully obliged.

Two years ago, new Reds signing Lazar Markovic did exactly the same thing. At the time Brannagan wore the number 50 shirt, the number that the £20m Serbian winger wanted. Just like with Matip, Brannagan gave up the number and moved to 32.

The 20 year old will now have the number 25 shirt for the new season. Hopefully in a few years time, he will be good enough to wear Steven Gerrard’s number 8 shirt but we shouldn’t put any pressure on the lad. Jurgen Klopp was very impressed with him in the run outs he made  last season and we will hopefully see more of him in the upcoming campaign.
