Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has told Liverpoolfc.com that he hopes his injuries are now well behind him.

Last season, the 26 year old was hampered by a chronic foot injury which meant he had to play through the pain barrier on a number of occasions, impacting both his form and fitness but he says he has now recovered.

At the end of last campaign, he also suffered a knee injury which meant he missed the last two months only returning for a place on the bench for the Europa League final defeat against Sevilla in May. Talking to the club’s official website, he said he feels the best he has felt for a long time:

“My foot is feeling good. I’ve been injured for most of last season but, over the course of the summer, I’ve trained with England, played one game at [the Euros], and then afterwards done a little bit of my own [training]. I’ve come in and I feel very good – I feel probably the best I’ve felt in a long time. So hopefully that can continue and I can have a good pre-season and get even fitter.”

Currently on the club’s preseason tour of the United States where they face Chelsea in an International Champions Cup match early on Thursday morning, Henderson will have to compete with four others for two positions in central midfielder with £25million signing Georginio Wijnaldum joining James Milner, Emre Can and Lucas Leiva as competition. We will see which two Jurgen Klopp favours as preseason progresses.
