Everton are interesting in signing Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani, according to the Record newspaper in Portugal. Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and a host of other clubs have been linked with the 28 year old in recent weeks.
The paper reports that Sporting are looking for an offer close to their €30million valuation; the figure which was the Algerian international’s release clause until it expired at the end of last month.
Slimani played a key role for Sporting as the Portuguese club finished second above FC Porto last season. He scored 31 goals in all competitions as they were just pipped to the league title by Lisbon rivals Benfica.
The forward has yet to return for preseason despite being expected to arrive and start training on 27th June. This has forced Sporting’s hand, according to the Record, and they are actively pursuing buyers for the player before the start of the new season.
