Valencia are unlikely to sell their young left back Toni Lato this summer, according to local news publication Deporte Valenciano. Liverpool have been limed with the full back in recent days as the Reds look for a replacement for Brad Smith who looks set for a £6million move to Bournemouth.

Lato (full name Antonio Latorre Grueso) has made his way through Valencia’s youth academy, graduating from the B team to make his senior debut in the Europa League against Rapid Vienna in a 4-0 win in February.

The 18 year old has yet to make a league appearance for the Spanish club and he may find his way to the first team blocked by Jose Luis Gaya, another youth graduate who is ahead of him in the pecking order at the Mestalla. Gaya will be backup to Guilherme Siqueira next season according to Deporte Valenciao and it may be the case that Lato could get more opportunities at Liverpool as Alberto Moreno’s deputy.

The Reds have been chasing Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell all summer but have had a £7million bid rejected. The Foxes are looking for £10million but Jurgen Klopp’s side are reluctant to up their offer.
