AC Milan are weighing up a move for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, according to Tuttosport. The Italian newspaper believes that the Brazilian fits the criteria the Serie A club are looking for.

Milan need a midfielder with an EU passport and who can protect the back four and it looks as though they have narrowed down their search to two possible options with Lucas and Manchester City’s Fernando being the preferred targets.

Lucas’s contract expires at the end of the season and with the move for Fernando looking more complicated, Milan believe they can get Lucas on the cheap without many issues.

AC Milan’s rivals Inter have also been linked with Lucas in recent weeks, and although the 29 year old has been injured, the future of the player is uncertain with the Liverpool Echo reporting that the midfielder was keen on a move to Galatasaray before the move collapsed. It is believed Jurgen Klopp wanted to keep Lucas to ensure the Reds had adequate defensive cover.
