It was reported yesterday that Liverpool rejected a £30m offer from Crystal Palace for Christian Benteke. Although the amount matched Liverpool’s valuation of the player, there were £7m in add-on clauses that scuppered the deal from going ahead, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Within the add-on clauses, £2.5?million would be paid to Liverpool only if Palace qualified for the Champions League while Benteke played 70% of the matches and scored 20 league goals during that season.

With this clause being very unlikely to come true, the bid was effectively £27.5million leading to the Reds rejecting the offer. The Liverpool Echo believes that Benteke is keen on a move to Palace and with the London club desperately short of goals, and £25million richer from the sale of Yannick Bolasie to Everton, it is likely that Alan Pardew’s side will return with another bid for the striker before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
