Inter Milan have finalised a deal to sign Portugal international winger Joao Mario from Sporting Lisbon, according to the Corriere Dello Sport.

Liverpool, Chelsea and a number of other clubs have been linked to the 23 year old following his performances at the European Championships where he helped Portugal lift the trophy. It was confirmed by Joao Mario’s agent Kia Joorabchian and the player’s father last month that the Reds had a €40million bid rejected but it looks as if Inter have had a €40million bid plus €5million in bonuses accepted for the winger. The player has agreed a five year contract with the Serie A side, and will earn €3million a year after tax. He is expected in Milan on Monday to have a medical and finalise the deal.

Although the Reds were likely interested in the player earlier this summer, it was possibly the case that they switched their attentions to Sadio Mane once their bid for Mario had been rejected. The Southampton forward then signed for £30million in late June.
