Liverpool and Arsenal have both returned to the negotiating table over the possibility of signing Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Reds were in contact a month ago regarding the Croatian the Italian newspaper reports, and they could make their move as they looking for a holding midfielder to compete with Emre Can in the middle of the park.

Fellow defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva has been heavily linked with Sampdoria in the past day or so, but the €30million asking price that Inter Milan have placed on the 23 year old could prove to be an issue.

The Italian club are in a state of flux at the moment after the sacking Roberto Mancini two weeks before the start of the Serie A season. Former Ajax coach Frank De Boer has been appointed as his replacement but La Gazzetta believes the Brozovic could be sold in order to fund more signings as the new manager looks to make his mark on the squad before the end of the transfer window.
