Cologne and German international left back Jonas Hector has responded to speculation that he is set to leave the Bundesliga club this summer.

Hector has been persistently linked with a move to Liverpool in the German media but when asked by journalists about his future, the 26 year old gave a short response to sporten.com:

“I’ll stay here and never said anything else. If I wanted to go, I would not have had all this hassle with journalists.”

When asked about links with Barcelona, Hector responded:

“This did not come from me…My advisors and I have nothing to say and I won’t say more now.”

Barca eventually signed Lucas Digne from Paris Saint-Germain, putting to an end any speculation that Hector would be moving to the Camp Nou. Tottenham were also linked with the German earlier in the transfer window but the Reds interest has been the most talked about, not least because Jurgen Klopp has one senior left back Alberto Moreno who has come under criticism for his performances last campaign.

Whether there is actually any real interest there, remains to be seen. The Reds have failed in a bid for Ben Chilwell after the 19 year old signed a new contract to stay at Leicester so it may be the case that they return to bid for Hector before the end of the summer.
