Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has said he was surprised by how good the players are in the Reds squad after joining the side in the summer.

The Dutch international signed from Newcastle United for £25million in July and has been playing in a deeper role since arriving at Anfield. He told the club’s official website that he was taken aback by the quality of his fellow teammates in his first training sessions with his new side:

“You can see how good the players are. Before this, I didn’t have a clue how good everyone is, but now that I train with them every day I can see how good everyone is – it’s a really talented group. And also the young players who come to the first team are talented. Everything has surprised me.”

Wijnaldum has yet to score for Liverpool but his endeavour and work rate playing in a more withdrawn position in midfield has led to many plaudits from pundits and fans alike. His energy and ability to track back and make forward runs when required are all tremendous assets in a Jurgen Klopp side and if he adds the goals we all know he is capable of, he will certainly prove to be an excellent signing.
