Liverpool midfielder Emre Can says he feels like he is starting from scratch after having a troubled start to the campaign. The German international returned late to preseason after his exploits at Euro 2016 but he then sustained an ankle injury which sidelined him for a number of weeks.

He returned against Derby County on Tuesday night as a second half substitute but he now feels he will be starting from zero again with the midfield trio of Adam Lallana, Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson all currently ahead of him in the pecking order. He told the Liverpool Echo:

“Adam, Hendo and Gini have played well together – you can see by the results and the good football. I saw it as well myself and I was very happy for them. Every player has to start from zero – myself as well. Now I am back I want to stay healthy and show myself again when I get game time and also in training.”

The Reds face Hull City at home on Saturday afternoon and it is expected that Jurgen Klopp will name a side similar to the one that played against Chelsea last Friday. The Liverpool boss confirmed today that Daniel Sturridge is fit and available to play but he was less forthcoming about who would start in goal after Loris Karius’s return to full fitness after a broken hand.
