Former Liverpool player Joao Carlos Teixeira could be returning to England in the January transfer window, according to Don Balon. The Spanish newspaper believes that Sunderland want to bring the player on loan to increase the side’s creativity.

The 23 year old only returned home to join Porto in the summer after rejecting a new contract with the Reds but he has not been involved in new manager Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans so far this season and is already looking for a move away from the Estadio Dragao.

Teixeira struggled for game time while in the red of Liverpool but he had a very successful loan spell at Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2014/15 season being named the club’s player of the season.

His performances there and during his fleeting appearances for Liverpool in cup competitions means he still has many admirers in this country, with David Moyes’ Sunderland side especially interested, reports Don Balon, as they look for a playmaker to feed striker Jermain Defoe.
