How Anfield can become a fortress again

Former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby believes the Reds should use the opening of the new main stand to make Anfield a fortress once again.

Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, the ex Red thinks that Liverpool will need to win the majority of the games at home this in order to ensure that teams fear coming to play at the ground as they did back in the 70s and 80s:

“The team need the support in every home game and it’s been a while now since Anfield has consistently been a fortress. You need to be winning 13 or 14 of your home games for that to happen and Jurgen Klopp knows the importance of that.”

In his pre-match press conference before Saturday’s game against Premier League champions Leicester City, Jurgen Klopp said he hoped to harness the power of the Anfield crowd in order to push the team to victory.

The Reds have had to play their first four matches away from home this season as building work on the new stand was completed. But with an extra 8,500 fans inside the stadium, the Liverpool manager will be hoping it can help the team push on to greater heights this season as they look to break in to the top four for only the second time in seven years.
