Liverpool FC have explained the reasoning behind the decision to switch back to using white netting rather than red in Liverpool’s first home match of the season against Leicester City last weekend at Anfield.

Before the Leicester game, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp requested that the ground staff make the change as he believed that the colour white stands out more in a player’s peripheral vision. This, he believes, will hopefully lead to more goals being scored at Anfield this season. Something which can’t be disproved after Reds subsequently fired four against the Foxes at the weekend!

The famous red netting was re-introduced by Brendan Rodgers back in 2012 following 18 years with white nets after former manager Roy Evans made the switch to white in 1995 due to similar reasons to Klopp. Rodgers also re-introduced the “This is Anfield” sign which had hung in the tunnel between 1974 and 1998, when it was replaced by a newer sign.
