Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp left goalkeeping coach John Achterburg to tell Simon Mignolet he was to be dropped for Loris Karius in the game against Hull City at the weekend, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Klopp believes that such discussions about decisions should take place after the match rather than before it as all players and staff should focus on the game rather than their own issues. Klopp said:

“Like Simon is, one of the best professionals we have. Like I said a few times, before the game there is only the decision. After the game if someone wants to talk about it we can talk about it, but before the game nothing else than the game. If he wants to talk we can talk, there’s no problem, but it will be not a problem because I know him. We cannot promise line up positions. We can only say we made decisions, use them.”

Karius’s only real job against Hull City was to pick the ball out of the net against Hull from David Meyler’s shot. He was very much a spectator at Anfield on Saturday and Klopp says he will continue in goal against Swansea this weekend. The Reds boss has previously said he wants to test both goalkeepers before the international break, and with there being very little to do against either Derby or Hull, Swansea could provide a sterner examination of Karius’s abilities.
