Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is excited by the possibility of playing in front of 54,500 fans when the Reds face Leicester City on Saturday in their first home match of the season.

Anfield’s capacity has increased by 8,5000 after work on the new main stand was completed. The Reds had to play their first three matches away from home in order for construction work to be finished but Sturridge is now keen to play in front of a full house and repay the Anfield faithful for their support. He said to the club’s official website:

“Week in, week out we need the fans as much as possible. They turn up and it’s always a sell-out at Anfield. It’s important that it continues to be like that and they are vocal, as they are all the time. Because without them we wouldn’t be where we are and who we are.”

“We understand the importance of the fans and we’re grateful for everything they have done for us in helping us and pushing us on the football field. We’ll look to repay them with results.”

Sturridge did not start the previous league match against Tottenham despite returning to full fitness with Roberto Firmino being favoured by Jurgen Klopp in big matches away from home. He could start against Leicester at the weekend though with the Reds one of the few teams who beat the Foxes last season in the corresponding fixture after matching them like-for-like in a 4-4-2 formation.
