Verona forward Lubomir Tupta has said that he turned a move to Liverpool as he believed Italy would better suit his abilities.

The Slovakian revealed that he had two trials with Liverpool, both of which he felt went well, before opting to move to Serie A side Hellas Verona. In an interview with calciomercato.com, he said:

“I did two auditions with Liverpool and were both positive, but the conditions that had arisen, have convinced me that I could not make the most of my time there. I like English football, but also the Italian one, which eventually was my choice.”

Staying in the same country rather than upping roots and moving to England may have played a big part in the decision. The 18 year old was part of Catania’s youth setup before moving to Verona back in 2015.

Tupt has however yet to make a senior appearance for Verona since moving. The striker has been capped by Slovakia at youth level with games for both the under 17s and under 18s. This season for Verona, he has started two under 19 matches, one in a 6-0 victory over Trapani as a forward, the other being a 2-1 away win against Brescia playing as a left winger.
