Thompson: Chelsea have suffered “big blow” ahead of Liverpool encounter

|

Liverpool will come up against a Chelsea side who will be weaker in one key area when they face each other on Friday night, according to Reds legend Phil Thompson.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Thommo feels the absence of John Terry through injury could prove vital in what will otherwise be a tight encounter at Stamford Bridge:

“It will be a big blow. The years might be catching up with him but he’s always been about reading the game. He’s never had great pace but he organises at the back and I think he will be a big miss. He plays such a major role in that team in the backline.”

The Chelsea captain will miss the game against the Reds after picking up an injury in the 2-2 draw against Swansea last weekend. He left the Liberty Stadium on crutches and later confirmed on his Instagram account that he had strained the ligaments in his ankle and will be out of action for ten days.

New signing David Luiz could take Terry’s place in the side. The Brazilian returned to Chelsea from PSG for £34million in the summer transfer window after spending two years at the French club. Luiz has yet to make an appearance for the Blues since making the move back to London on deadline day.
