Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has so failed to set the world alight with his performances this season for the Reds but he showed in the training session while on international duty for the Netherlands that he does appear to be an expert in making a ball appear from nowhere!
From the clip, the fact that a player does walk in front of Wijnaldum, obscuring our view of the Dutchman’s feet before the ball appears could explain that it came from a team mate but which direction has the ball come from? It looks like a very clever optical illusion.
Wijnaldum is with the Netherlands squad as they get their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign underway against Sweden tonight. They didn’t fare too well in a friendly in the buildup to the match. They lost 2-1 at home to Greece on Thursday night. Like the Dutch, the Greeks did not qualify for Euro 2016 despite the expanded 24 team format.
