Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom believes his loan move to Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg will allow him to get more game time and help him develop as a player.

The 23 year old joined the Austrian Bundesliga champions on a season long loan in the summer but has only managed to play two games so far because of a hamstring injury. He told the blog The Set Pieces:

“People think ‘Oh, the Austrian league’, the quality is not going to be there or I’m not going to improve. But I’ve come here, I’ve seen the quality and I know what the league is about. It’s a good opportunity to learn a different culture and a different style of play.”

Wisdom has spent the last three seasons out on loan at Derby County, West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City but has seen his game time slowly dwindle in each of his loan spells. Wisdom believes the fact that each team played them at right back, rather than in his favoured centre back role, made things difficult for him.

He is hoping that at Salzburg he will be afforded opportunities in the centre of defence for the first time in his senior career. It will be interesting to find out how he does and whether he can excel in a different league.
