Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner is keen on bringing in Liverpool defender Joe Gomez on loan, according to the Guardian. The 19 year old has only just returned to full training after two serious injuries which have kept him out of action for a full year.

The centre back was on international duty when he suffered a knee injury last October. He recovered to start preseason under Jurgen Klopp but injured his Achilles and was sidelined for another couple of months.

Wagner, who is a close friend of the Liverpool manager after they worked together at Borussia Dortmund, has already taken goalkeeper Danny Ward on loan from the Reds this season and could offer Gomez more game time in the Championship at a competitive level to regain match sharpness after a long time out.

Wagner’s Huddersfield were top of the Championship but after two successive defeats against Sheffield Wednesday, and Preston North End last night, they now sit in fourth place behind Newcastle, Norwich and Brighton.
