Liverpool have stepped up their interest in AIK Solna striker Alexander Isak, according to Fotbollskanalen. The Swedish football channel previously reported that Italian side Cagliari and Bundesliga club Leipzig were the two clubs who had registered their interest officially with AIK but they believe the Reds have now also thrown their hat in the ring.

The club’s sporting director Bjorn Wesstrom was asked about the interest in Isak by Fotbollskanalen, and he replied:

“I have no comment on which clubs involved, but I can confirm that we have been contacted by teams in the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga and Serie A. It is not small clubs we’re talking about so it’s obviously flattering”

When asked specifically about Liverpool’s interest in the 17 year old, Wesstrom refused to elaborate:

“I have no comment”

Isak has been labelled the “new Zlatan Ibrahimovic” by observers of Swedish football but the striker is still very much a raw talent. He has however been regularly involved in AIK’s Allsvenskan league campaign this season with nine goals and one assist so far in 21 league matches, with the club sitting in third position on 53 points, seven points behind league leaders Malmo with just three games to go.
