Manchester United are set to make a bid for Porto midfielder Hector Herrera in the January transfer window, according to Tuttomercatoweb. The Mexican was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in the Italian and Portuguese press over the summer before the Reds opted to buy Georginio Wijnaldum instead.
Herrera was on the verge of moving to Napoli before the end of the transfer window but the Italian club and his current side Porto could not agree on a fee.
United manager Jose Mourinho is said to be keen to raid his former club for Herrera and he would no doubt fit the Manchester club’s defensive approach under the former Porto, Chelsea and Real Madrid boss.
The 26 year old plays a holding midfield role, and has made nine appearances so far this season, scoring 1 goal and providing three assists as his Porto side sit third on 16 points from seven matches.
