Stoke City and Inter Milan have joined Liverpool in the race to sign River Plate striker Lucas Alario, according to calciomercato.com.

The Argentinian has been linked with the Reds for almost a year with the Mirror writing an ‘exclusive‘ all the way back in March that the Reds were attempting to unravel the third party ownership which makes a move for the 23 year old a complicated one.

The forward scored 11 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions last season, and has made a good start to this campaign with four goals and one assist in nine matches.

Alario made his debut for the Argentina national team back in September with head coach Edgardo Bauza giving him two substitute appearances against Uruguay and Venezuela in qualifying matches for the 2018 World Cup.

Whether Stoke City will make a move for the player in the January transfer window it is not known, but with the Reds already having 4 senior strikers in the squad, it is unlikely Jurgen Klopp will be making a move for the Argentine in the immediate future.
