Liverpool and Arsenal scouts were at both Sassuolo’s and Genoa’s matches at the weekend according to tuttomercatoweb.com, and as well as checking the progress for Sassuolo’s Gregoire Defrel, they were also keeping an eye on Genoa forward Leonardo Pavoletti.

Pavoletti is now 27 years of age and has had eight clubs during his career already, as well as a loan spell at a ninth. His early career saw the Italian struggle to make a breakthrough. He spent two years at Armando Picchi before moving to Viareggio for one season. He then spent one season at Pavia before having single seasons at Juve Stabia, Casale and Virtus Lanciano.

He began to establish himself whilst at Sassuolo, although he was initially sent out loan at Varese. He impressed enough that on his return to his parent club, he began playing regularly. Throughout this time he was heavily linked with Leeds United but reportedly turned down moves to the Championship side before joining Genoa on loan in January 2015.

His performances for Genoa led to a permanent move and he has been a regular in the side, scoring 24 goals in 41 appearances. He was even called up the national side for Italy’s World Cup qualifier against Israel back in September but he has yet to win a senior cap.
