Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne wants to recover his reputation at the Italian club before deciding on his future, according to calaciomercato.com.

The 25 year old has been at Napoli for over seven years but relations between himself and the fans have soured because of the contract dispute which has overshadowed his start to the league season. His form has also been poor compared to last season, having scored no goals so far this campaign compared to six at the same stage last year.

Insigne wants a significant increase on the €4million a year salary he has been offered by Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis and there is now a standoff between the player and the club.

Things came to a head last Wednesday when Insigne missed a penalty in a 3-2 loss at home to Besiktas in the Champions League. The winger was booed off after being substituted and was visibly upset about the incident.

Dries Mertens has taken Insigne’s places in some matches this season although the Italian is still a first team regular. Liverpool and Valencia are reportedly however waiting in the wings if things don’t improve with his club in the next couple of months.
