Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has tipped Daniel Sturridge to start against Sunderland next weekend. The England international has only started four league games so far this season, and is without a goal in the nine Premier League games he has played.

The lack of starts in important games has led to speculation that the 27 year old will request to leave the club in January but Aldridge believes that the forward will be given the green light to start in the absence of Adam Lallana on Saturday. He wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo:

“Lallana will probably be missing again I think Daniel Sturridge could be the solution – we are at home and I think he will get the nod.”

The Reds lacked the cutting edge against Southampton that has been almost ever-present this season and it seems like a logical move to give Sturridge more game time against one of the struggling teams in the division, especially at home.

Questions remain however over whether Sturridge has done enough to convince manager Jurgen Klopp that he can adapt to the Reds boss’s style of play. Liverpool have been linked with another striker in FC Rostov’s Sardar Azmoun which has added fire to the rumours Sturridge could leave Anfield sooner rather than later.
