Former Liverpool right back Vegard Heggem has questioned whether midfielders Emre Can and Jordan Henderson have long term futures under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

The Reds captain and German international have both played well this season with Henderson even captaining his country under interim England manager Gareth Southgate but Heggem told Liverpool.no that he is not sure about the pair:

“Henderson and Can have fared well enough, but I’m still unsure whether they are good enough in the long term.”

Heggem has also questioned the consistency of the Reds squad with the Norwegian highlighting the huge disparity in performances which Jurgen Klopp’s side have experienced over the last year or so:

“What worries me is that there is great distance between the peak level and bottom level of this Liverpool team, and that it is often against supposedly inferior opposition the team has encountered trouble previously. It is pointless to study the fixtures and take points for granted, even though the games so far gives grounds for optimism.”

The Reds face Southampton at St Marys this weekend. It certainly isn’t a game any fan will be taking three points for granted. Claude Puel’s side find themselves in tenth place on 14 points from 11 matches, but that doesn’t tell the full story. They narrowly lost at the Emirates against Arsenal earlier in the season, and have also drawn away against Manchester City,
