Roma left back Luca Pellegrini was named in the senior squad by manager Luciano Spalletti for the first time yesterday for the Italian club’s match against Austria Vienna in the Europa League,  but according to tuttomercatoweb.com, they have had to fight off two European clubs to keep the youngster.

The Italian website believe that the Serie A side turned down approaches from Liverpool and Dutch club PSV Eindhoven in recent months for the 17 year old.

The defender, who can also play on the left wing, has yet to play for Roma’s first team and did not make the bench for Roma’s 4-2 win against Vienna last night despite being included in the travelling party.

Spalletti most likely wanted to give the youngster some experience around the first team squad but probably also to head off any potential suitors for the full back. In an interview with Roma’s official website, when asked about who his favourite English team was, he did say Liverpool so you can’t rule out a move happening in the future.
