Liverpool are still chasing signing Marseille attacking midfielder Maxime Lopez, according to Goal.com, despite the player rejecting a move to Merseyside to sign a professional deal at the French club back in 2014.

Lopez has been compared to former Marseille player Samir Nasri who forged a similar path from the club’s youth ranks to first team prominence before moving to Arsenal.

The 18 year old broke into the Ligue One side’s first team this season after spending the last two years in the club’s youth teams. So far this season, the Frenchman has made five appearances in all competitions but has yet to score for the French side, although he has one assist already to his name.

Fellow Premier League side Arsenal are also said to have an ongoing interest in Lopez. Along with the Reds, the Gunners offered the youngster a professional deal before he opted to stay with Marseille as a 16 year old.
