Liverpool are to revive their pursuit of Porto midfielder Hector Herrera in January, according to A Bola (via the Daily Express).

The Portuguese newspaper reports that the Mexican international has a release clause of £35million but the Reds would only be prepared to pay a region of €20million or £17m for the 26 year old.

Italian clubs Juventus and Napoli are also believed to be looking at the midfielder. Napoli were very close to agreeing a fee with Porto back in the summer for the player but they eventually opted instead for another Liverpool target Piotr Zielinski.

It is not known where Herrera would fit in to Jurgen Klopp’s side. He is a combative central midfield so would likely play either in Jordan Henderson’s or Emre Can’s current role in the team, suggesting the Mexican would be brought in initially as a squad player to ensure there is more competition for places as the Reds head into the second half of the season..
