Watford manager Walter Mazzarri has backed Liverpool to win the Premier League title if they can continue to play with the same energy and quality they produced against his side on Sunday.

The Hornets had kept three clean sheets in their previous three league matches prior to the counter at Anfield at the weekend but they were on the end of a 6-1 mauling which in truth could have been a lot worse. The former Napoli and Inter Milan manager is quoted by Football365 as saying:

“We have to work tactically and psychologically to play against a team like this again. We had too many players not on form but also congratulations to Liverpool.

“From the teams we’ve played there’s no doubt they are the team I’m most impressed with. If they continue like this they are number one in my list for winning the Premier League from the teams we’ve played against.”

Mazzarri’s Watford have played Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United already this season so the Italian’s comments show how highly he rates Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Reds will however have to wait until after the international break to follow up the rout when they face Southampton at St Marys, which should prove to be a much sterner test. The Saints will be coming off two successive defeats in the league to Chelsea and Hull City, and will want to improve on those performances.
