Image for Klopp brings clarity to mounting striker speculation

As quoted by The Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp has said that the Reds have no plans to sell Daniel Sturridge despite him being repeatedly linked with a move away in recent times.

‘Studge’ has been in and out the team this season with him mainly having to settle for a starting berth in the League Cup up until now with our usual front three in scintillating form.

The Reds have seen Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino rip the net repeatedly this season with the club being the highest scorers in the division and that has meant the former Chelsea forward has largely had a watching brief this year.

Speculation was always going to surface surrounding a player of Sturridge’s talent but our German boss has moved decisively to retain that the forward is part of his longer term plans.

Klopp said, as he also confirmed the striker is not currently training:

“Unfortunately Daniel is not in training now and that is what I am more concerned about than any transfer rumours.

“I am prepared for everything you could ask me in January and I’m sure it will be funny.

“There is absolutely no thought to sell any player from the first team squad. I don’t think it would make sense.”

Stern words from the gaffer, then, with the obvious hope that the stories will now dissipate so the squad can focus on our title challenge this season.
