Speaking to Sky Sports, Kris Boyd has said that it is time for Daniel Sturridge to leave the Reds on a permanent basis in January.

The Englishman is currently out with an injury and has seen Divock Origi come in and nail down a spot in the place of the equally injured Philippe Coutinho so may, even when fit again, find it hard to compete for a spot.

He’s already struggled for playing time with Coutinho fit so the omens are not looking good for a man that almost helped fire us to the title in 2013/14.

Certainly, he appears to be a fringe player at the very most under Jurgen Klopp and, according to Boyd, now is the time that he should pack his bags and move on.

The Scotsman said:

“I don’t think there’s any question about how good Daniel Sturridge is as a player.

“But I think his time is up at Liverpool and he’ll have to move on to find regular football.

“There’s no doubt he’s a talented footballer, but when somebody is coming in and scoring goals like Origi has, every time he has come in he has not let Liverpool down, it’s difficult.

“Does Klopp really fancy Sturridge? Even when he’s fit, he’s not played a lot of football.”

Origi hit his fifth goal in as many games last night as we beat Middlesbrough 3-0 in a confidence boosting performance for the squad.
