The Reds’ official club website has confirmed today that Tiago Ilori has signed for Reading today in a permanent deal that sees the Portuguese leave at last.
Ilori was signed by Brendan Rodgers as the next young star defender for the club but things quickly suggested he wasn’t going to be quite good enough to play at our level.
Indeed, he only made a handful of appearances during his few years here and spent a lot of his time on our books on loan around Europe so it makes sense that we’ve let him go at last.
Reading are currently going well in the Championship at the moment and should they get promoted we may come up against Ilori whilst it’ll be interesting to see how he adapts if he gets to play regularly.
In the meantime, the Reds have yet to sign anyone this month and it’ll be interesting to see if Jurgen Klopp moves now to get another option in.
