There’s a real buzz this morning which means there can only be one thing on the horizon – a semi final.
Whilst the final of a competition rightly gets us most excited the prospect of seeing the Reds in action in the last four of a tournament is almost as enthralling and that is what is going to happen later tonight.
The Reds travel to St. Mary’s to take on Southampton in the first leg of the EFL Cup this evening knowing that they are just three wins away from the ninth victory of this competition.
That prospect can wait, though, as all focus needs to be on tonight against a very decent opponent.
Southampton have been pretty poor in the league recently but have really focused on this competition and so we need to be alert right from the first whistle.
We don’t need to win this game in this leg, we just need to get a decent result which we can build upon at Anfield and Jurgen Klopp will surely know that.
It’s time to look at the key battles for this one, then, and so here are the three we think could prove decisive….
