We saw the first Anfield game of 2017 yesterday afternoon as the Reds hosted Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup.

And, let’s be honest, it’s not one we’re going to remember as we slumped to a 0-0 draw against the League 2 side.

Jurgen Klopp, as we expected, played a much-changed side as the youngsters got their latest chance to impress and stake a claim for the first team but things didn’t quite go to plan.

Whilst they looked comfortable and confident enough playing in-front of a packed Anfield crowd they sorely lacked any kind of penetration and cutting edge as they came up against very stubborn opposition.

The Reds looked particularly bright in the first-half but really began to look laboured in the second and despite the introduction of Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino towards the end – things didn’t come off.

Another game for the Reds to contend with in January, then, and here are three things we learned about the youngsters yesterday…
