Liverpool will find out the extent of defender Dejan Lovren’s injury today (Wednesday, 09/01), according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that manager Jurgen Klopp will receive the results of a scan conducted on the Croatian international on Tuesday.

Lovren was forced off in the early stages of the Reds’ 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday, worsening a centre half crisis which already includes Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

The Mail’s report states that if it is a serious hamstring problem for Lovren, as suspected, then he could miss up to six weeks of action.

OPINION

This scan has become hugely important for Liverpool. They really need good results to come from it because losing Lovren at the same time as Gomez and Matip would be a big blow to Klopp’s side. Virgil van Dijk is currently the only fully fit senior centre back at the club, meaning that if Lovren faces a six week absence the Reds could be in real trouble at the back. Midfielder Fabinho filled in in defence rather well on Monday, but you wouldn’t want the Brazilian lining up at the heart of the defence for a significant length of time. It’s unlikely that Klopp will be pressed into the January transfer market, with a quiet month expected on Merseyside, but this must be a bit of a concern for him. He, like every Liverpool fan, will be hoping for positive news from the scan results on Wednesday. Let’s wait and see.
